Mud, Wildlife, and Jungle Days in Bukit Lawang & Tangkahan

The journey began as our guests arrived at Kualanamu Airport and headed straight toward the green heart of Bukit Lawang. The drive slowly left the city behind, trading traffic and noise for rivers, trees, and fresh jungle air. By the time they checked in at Ecolodge beside the river, the pace had already shifted. That evening, instead of settling in early, they embark on a guided snake night tour, walking quietly through the rainforest while the sounds of nocturnal life echoed around them.

The next morning, our guests set off with a local guide and stepped into Gunung Leuser National Park. Muddy trails and tangled roots led them deeper into the jungle, where the village quickly faded from memory. Before long, they were rewarded with the unforgettable sight of wild orangutans moving freely through the canopy above. Watching them swing between trees in complete calm became one of the trip’s most memorable moments. After a simple picnic lunch in the jungle, the trek ended with a fun river-tubing session, floating downstream and laughing their way back, before a relaxed evening at Bamboo Restaurant and Ecolodge.

Leaving Bukit Lawang, the journey continued toward the quieter and more remote area of Tangkahan. The road passed small villages and stretches of untouched forest, making the transition feel like part of the adventure itself. In Tangkahan, our guests met gentle Sumatran elephants and joined their mahouts by the river. Bathing the elephants up close was playful, peaceful, and surprisingly emotional. The day continued with a visit to a hidden waterfall and time to unwind in natural hot springs, followed by an overnight stay surrounded by jungle sounds at the Ecolodge.

Eventually, it was time to say goodbye to the rainforest. Our guests returned to Medan and checked in at the Aryaduta Hotel, where slowing down by the pool felt well earned after days in the jungle. On their final day, they enjoyed a relaxed morning with a late breakfast, a swim, and a bit of exploring before heading back to the airport in the early evening. They left with tired smiles, muddy shoes, and memories shaped by jungles, rivers, and wildlife—an experience that stayed with them long after the journey ended.
