JUST ANOTHER DAY IN THE JUNGLE
The boys are deep in the jungle here in Bukit Lawang, and it’s a proper mix of sweat, mud, wildlife and a few laughs along the way.
The trek starts under thick canopy, with towering trees blocking out most of the sun and the trail quickly turning into roots, climbs and a bit of guesswork. It doesn’t take long before everyone feels the heat, but once you get into the rhythm, it’s all part of it.
There have been some great encounters along the way, with a few orangutans showing up right on cue. Always a highlight seeing them move through the trees so effortlessly while everyone stands still below, just taking it in.
The terrain keeps things interesting, with a mix of steep sections, muddy paths and the odd slip here and there. Nothing too serious, just enough to keep it fun.
By late afternoon, the trail opens up to the river where camp is set up for the night. Simple setup, nothing fancy, but exactly what you want after a long day in the jungle. Shoes off, feet in the water, and a bit of time to cool down before dinner.
Once it gets dark, the jungle shifts. It doesn’t quiet down, it just changes pace. Plenty of sounds, a few stories shared, and everyone settling in after a solid day out.
All in all, a proper jungle experience. A bit rough around the edges, but that’s what makes it good.
